About Kathy Bryla - Kathy Bryla - Independent for Lane Cove

What have I been doing since being re-elected...

Since my re-election in October 2024, I’ve hit the ground running. As your independent representative, I am committed to bringing forward the issues that matter most to our community. I’ve worked closely with fellow councillors to prioritise and act on the initiatives that you’ve asked for. The following projects have been approved and are now in progress.

Building regulations to protect the environment and housing needs (Nov 24): A motion to initiate a review of Lane Cove’s LEP (Lane Cove Local Environmental Plan 2009) to include additional targets and provisions for sustainability, and affordable housing, and to action other urgent updates.

Future proofing our assets (Nov 24): A motion for maintaining the 12 Ft Sailing Club Longueville for the community who have enjoyed this asset for years.

The environment and accountability (Dec 24): A motion that recognises the Lane Cove Council Sustainability Team's dedication and achievements in advancing environmental sustainability. It seeks to build on this success by fostering a stronger culture within the Council and Local Government Area (LGA) that prioritizes sustainability and addresses the declared Climate Emergency in all decision-making.

Safety and traffic (Dec 24): A motion calling for a Traffic Study in Lane Cove Central Ward to improve the safety to both cars, bicycle users and pedestrians and to reduce the speed limit for motor vehicles to 40km/hour.

Companion animals in our community (Feb 25): This motion requests that Council receives a report at its April 2025 meeting on the status of actions taken, and actions recommended to be taken, in response to recommendations 12-15 of Council’s Dog Strategy.

The aquatic centre equitable access (Feb 25): A motion to investigate options for discounted pricing for council sporting and aquatic facilities to increase affordability and access for all.

Water sensitive urban design (Mar 25): This motion calls for the development of “Water Catchment Plans” for the Stringybark Reserve and Burns Bay Reserve catchment areas in Lane Cove. The aim is to have such plans available to be implemented in conjunction with the reserve master plans for catchment areas. To support this, develop and implement an education program around Water Sensitive Urban Design (WSUD) and maximise water reuse, including how these practices can lead to enhanced sustainability and environmental resilience in Lane Cove.
