Kathy Bryla - Kathy Bryla - Independent for Lane Cove
Envision a Lane Cove built for our future, that protects what we love and listens to our community.

In 2021, I ran for council to give back to the community that has enriched my life and to play a proactive role in shaping its future. As an independent councillor, I proudly represent our local voice and drive our community's agenda.

With 25 years of experience working as a registered architect, I bring my professional focus to local government. When I'm not working, I dedicate myself to my family, friends and home life in Riverview.

Thank you to the community for re-electing me in 2024. I love this role and I’m dedicated to serving our community.

December Council Meeting (2024)

The Environment and Accountability

Motion Raised and Passed - A motion that recognises the Lane Cove Council Sustainability Team's dedication and achievements in advancing environmental sustainability. It seeks to build on this success by fostering a stronger culture within the Council and Local Government Area (LGA) that prioritizes sustainability and addresses the declared Climate Emergency in all decision-making. The motion recommended that council:

  • Draft a Climate Emergency Plan and adjust Section Two of the Lane Cove Community Strategic Plan Liveable Lane Cove (2035) to include its commitment to the Climate Emergency Declaration as an overarching principle, guiding all Council decision-making processes across each CSP theme.

  • Commit to a Lane Cove Council Administration net- zero target of 2028 and commit to an aspirational LGA net-zero target of 2040 (recognising that Local Government can only aid the community to achieve this goal).

  • Develop a page for the Council website specifically communicating the Climate emergency and how we are addressing our plan

  • Explore options for implementing a check register that demonstrates to the community and governing body how the decision-making process for every motion or report presented to the Council aligns with the following key considerations:Environmental Sustainability, including the Climate Emergency (in relation to the Climate Emergency Plan); Equity, Inclusion, Wellbeing, and Human Rights; Economic and Cultural Development; Operational/Budget Impacts, recognising that value for money extends beyond the price paid; Legal and Risk Implications
